12/18/2023 0 Comments Top 25 most paused movie momentsATB Combat is mediocre: This goes for all of the sakuguchi era final fantasies, but the combat isn't really that interesting or engaging(all non boss encunters can beat by spamming basic attack and aoe magic), and this is made worse by a few characters having free all hitting attacks then make resource managment almost non-existent(Edgar's Tools, Sabin's Blitz, Cyan's Bushido). An Uninteresting, Bloated Cast: Almost half the cast (relm, strago, umaro, mog, gogo, and gau) get almost nothing to work with beyond a couple traits and like 1 or 2 plot beats, and the party don't interact that often, especially in the world of ruin.I disagree with your statement about the pacing(I think it's one of the game's strengths in the WoB), but I do agree that ffvi is kind of middling(I personally give it a 7/10) All his scenes in the World of Light build up to his transformation in the World of Ruin, and Kefka is easily the best developed villain in the series up until that point (I'd also say he's better developed than most of the main villains after FFVI). Going from an attempted mass murder to a successful mass murder isn't character development that I would call unearned or not built up enough. He tries to massacre everyone in Figaro by burning it to the ground, as some others have mentioned. On Kefka: I don't agree about his turn to evil being too sudden after his first joke appearance. Some of the characters could use more development, certainly. Personally, I think a lot of newer games have pacing that's way too slow, and FFVI is closer to the speed I think that games should progress at (FFVI can easily be beaten in 30 hours or less, and a lot of things happen during a playthrough). The pacing is really brisk, though, and whether that's good or not can be subjective. One of my favourites is right after fighting the Phantom Train, after Cyan sees his dead family, and the game forces you to look at him for a good amount of time. But then, I also am very much against the idea of remaking games where I already think the original version is awesome.Īnyway, on the pacing: FFVI has some slower or lighter moments spread throughout its narrative. Even if FFVI were to have expanded or added scenes, it wouldn't need an entire additional game to do so. I hate that Square is splitting Final Fantasy VII into three, and I'd hate for them to do something similar to FFVI. The point I disagree with the most in the original topic is the idea of Final Fantasy VI being split into two games. Give the moments more importance and the cast more engagement. I'm still enjoying it, but it is way rougher than I remember, game would benefit immensely from a FFVIIR style project spanning two games for WOB and WOR. Didn't feel earned, should have had more scenes with the main cast or "Meanwhile" scenes building him up. Kefka is also introduced as a joke, literal clown and then he starts killing people in masse and is the big bad. Way too many characters that drop in and out of focus and thus become "Functions" instead of a cast you should care about. Feels like the game is rushing towards the next thing. The story doesn't have any time to breathe. Lo and behold it is the one I'm not enjoying that much. I beat and completed IV and V back to back in April/May, but gave VI a lot of time to breathe because it's special and my favorite of the bunch. V was good, not as great as IV, but still solid. Loved it and though it's old as shit I would still consider it a great time. Devoured FFIV and actually posted the 13th fastest completion time for it on PSNPROFILES which is kinda wild in retrospect. So I bought Pixel Remasters of IV-VI the day they released on PS.
